I just received a letter from the Commission for Public Complaints Against the RCMP (CPC) (link at bottom) in response to my second formal complaint. I am not even sure what to say to it.
I guess I could ask what was going through their heads to think that the RCMP might actually say something different than they have in court or in any of the previous investigations.
I guess I could ask what was going through their heads to think that the RCMP would be impartial in investigating themselves.
I guess I could ask what was going through their heads to think that this is any more than an absolute waste of tax dollars.
Why not just have a public inquiry that gives the RCMP a chance to show the public just how right they were in this matter?

The following is a copy of the “Chair's Final Report” that addresses the disposition of a complaint I made against the RCMP in the summer of 2001. When I made the complaint I had very little knowledge of what took place behind the scenes with the RCMP, I just knew something was not right. In the coming years and through both the criminal and civil trials that followed, I was able to obtain hundreds of internal RCMP documents, some of which I gave to Mr. Kennedy for his review. The allegation that is at the center of this report is very specific and can be found on page two. In looking at it objectively as possible, knowing that I do come at this with some presuppositions, I can only somewhat agree with Mr. Kennedy's conclusions. I will save my opinion of this report for now as I have filed a new complaint which I have also included here; I will address this one and if need be the new one after I have received a response from the commission. |

Ottawa, Ontario Dear Sir or Madam: “In short, the integrity of the RCMP Witness Protection Program is not in question. It is a vital instrument in the fight against organized crime. And we as a police organization have a responsibility to protect those whose lives are endangered as a result of assisting us in that fight.” (RCMP Assistant Commissioner Raf Souccar) I find it interesting that you have on occasion chosen to use an open letter to correct what you believe to be misinformation in the media regarding the RCMP and its many bad reviews. Intrigued enough I thought I might attempt the same. I am guessing it will take many a letter to correct the misinformation that your agency feeds the public; however let us start somewhere. |
